The Supreme Court of Russia has charged SS veteran Yaroslav Hunke with genocide

The Investigative Committee of Russia filed charges in absentia against Yaroslav Hunke, a veteran of the Halychyna SS division, who was invited to a session of the Canadian Parliament during Vladimir Zelensky’s visit.
As stated in the announcement of the SC, 98-year-old Hunka is accused of genocide of the civilian population on the territory of the Ukrainian SSR during the Great Patriotic War.
The Investigative Committee added that the issue of declaring Hunka on international wanted list and arrest in absentia is currently being resolved. The investigators also sent requests for legal assistance to Canada, Poland and Belarus.
On September 22, 2023, Hunka attended a session of the Parliament of Canada during the visit of the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi. The Speaker of the House of Commons of the Canadian Parliament, Anthony Roth, presented Hunka as a hero of the Second World War, “who fought for the independence of Ukraine from the Russian aggressors then and continues to support the military now.” He was greeted with a standing ovation.
After that, several human rights and Jewish organizations condemned Rota’s performance and ovation. The speaker apologized for inviting Gunka to the deputies and subsequently resigned.
Rota also stated that he did not know about Gunka’s connections with the Nazis, and admitted that he had made a mistake. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau expressed regret after the SS veteran’s visit to Parliament.
