On the day of Putin’s speech, mobile internet will be turned off at PMEF

Participants of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPEF) will not be able to use the mobile Internet during the plenary session on June 16, at which Vladimir Putin will speak.

The press service of the Roscongress, which organizes the forum, explained the temporary interruptions with the mobile Internet as “conducting technical work on the infrastructure of mobile operators” and suggested using the Wi-Fi network.

At the same time, as journalist Farida Rustamova writes with reference to an employee of one of the telecommunications operators, the Internet will be turned off by order of the Ministry of Information to avoid possible drone attacks. Communication will be jammed only on the territory of the Expoforum exhibition center, where the President of Russia, Vladimir Putin, will speak today.

There were exactly the same “problems” with the Internet at the beginning of June in Adler and Sochi, when Putin came to the Eurasian Congress. Taxi applications, bank cards did not work in the city, and cell phone calls were almost impossible.

• Petersburg International Economic Forum opened on June 14. The main theme this year will be “Sovereign development — the basis of a just world.” The program includes more than 140 events and more than a thousand speakers, including radical Russian philosopher Alexander Dugin, pranksters Vovan and Lexus, designer Artemiy Lebedev, actors Gosha Kutsenko and Vladimir Mashkov.
• At the same time, the organizers refused to accredit journalists from “unfriendly” countries, none of the invited leaders of “friendly” states came.
