The Investigative Committee of Russia created a military investigative department in Belarus. Alexander Bastrykin was informed about this during the meeting, as stated in the department’s press release.
“In connection with the location of the divisions of the Ministry of Defense of Russia in the Republic of Belarus, a military investigative department of the Russian Armed Forces has been created with a location on the specified territory,” the public message says.
In October last year, Alexander Lukashenko announced that he had agreed with Russian President Vladimir Putin to deploy a joint group of troops on the territory of Belarus. The Belarusian military department reported that the number of Russian soldiers in the group will be slightly less than 9 thousand people.
- In March, Vladimir Putin announced that Russia would place tactical nuclear weapons in Belarus. According to him, Russia does not transfer nuclear weapons to Belarus, but places its weapons on its territory.
- In June, the authoritarian leader of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko, spoke about a request to Russian President Vladimir Putin to “return” nuclear weapons to Minsk. According to him, “for now” we are talking about tactical weapons, however, Belarus is also preparing platforms for deploying strategic missiles. It follows from Lukashenko’s conversation with journalists that he believes that he can make a decision on the use of tactical ammunition located in the country.
