On Wednesday, Ukraine set a record for electricity consumption

On Wednesday, August 16, a new summer consumption record was recorded in Ukraine – the generation could not cover the peak consumption in the evening, so emergency assistance was provided from Romania.

About this reported press service of Ukrenergo.

A new record in the power system was recorded on Wednesday at 21:00, and this indicator exceeded the previous high of July 19 by 0.4%.

Generation and imports were not enough to cover the needs of the population due to the decrease in daylight and cloudy weather in some regions. As a result, solar plants produced less electricity in the evening hours, when consumption was highest.

Therefore, “Ukrenergo” received emergency assistance in Romania from 19:00 to 22:00 with a capacity of 400 MW every hour to ensure consumption. The operator emphasizes that emergency assistance is the last tool to overcome the power shortage in the power system, and the cost of such electricity is high.

Currently, in preparation for winter, repairs are underway at many thermal and hydroelectric power stations, as well as at some nuclear power units. Therefore, the power system has very limited possibilities to cover high consumption.

On Thursday, August 17, there will be no export of electricity from Ukraine, instead import from Slovakia and Moldova will continue in the morning and evening hours with the maximum capacity in individual hours up to 645 MW.

The Russians also attacked the energy infrastructure in the Dnipropetrovsk region, as a result of which 10,000 consumers were cut off. Currently, power has been restored to all customers. As a result of shelling, new damage was recorded in power grids in Kharkiv Oblast, Kherson Oblast, and Donetsk Oblast.

In total, 429 settlements have been cut off due to hostilities, and power supply is being restored with the permission of the military and under the security situation.

We remind you:

The heat returns with the start of the work week led tothat on Monday the maximum consumption increased immediately by 7% compared to the previous day (Sunday), and by 2.4% compared to the previous working day on August 11 (Friday).
