Oppositionist Ilya Yashin was escorted back to Moscow

Opposition politician Ilya Yashin, convicted on charges of spreading fakes about the Russian army, was transferred back to Moscow, to pre-trial detention center No. 4 “Medved”, from which he was transferred to Udmurtia before the New Year.

In a post published on behalf of Yashin in his Telegram channel, it is said that the deportation from the capital was illegal, since the official sentence has not yet entered into force, the politician was waiting for the appeal to be considered, and the court is obliged to acquaint him with the materials of the criminal case, which are in Moscow . The oppositionist also reported that the transfer back to Medved pre-trial detention center was made possible thanks to the quality work of his lawyer Maria Eismont.

  • Ilya Yashin, one of the few opposition politicians who did not leave Russia after the start of the war, was arrested in July last year. The criminal case against him was initiated because of the broadcast on YouTube, in which he talked about the crimes committed by the Russian military in the Ukrainian city of Bucha.
  • On December 9, the Meshchan District Court of Moscow sentenced Yashin to eight and a half years in a general regime colony. Two weeks later, without waiting for the appeal to be considered, the FSIN transferred the policy to Izhevsk. The reasons for such a decision were not officially announced. Yashin himself called it “petty dirt.”
