The creator of the Telegram messenger Pavel Durov promised to block the Utro Dagestan Telegram channel and other channels that call for violence. “Morning Dagestan” is one of the popular channels in the region, which in recent days has broadcast anti-Semitic appeals. In particular, his anonymous authors called for the expulsion of “refugees from Israel” who allegedly came there from the hotels of Khasavyurt and to storm the Makhachkala airport in order to block the flight from Tel Aviv.
Durov published a screenshot from the channel “Morning Dagestan” with the words “We hate Yahudov! [“яхуды” – арабское название евреев – РС] We will not let you live peacefully or be in Dagestan and the Caucasus!” He commented: “Channels calling for violence (as in the screenshot above) will be blocked for violating the rules of Telegram, Google, Apple and the entire civilized world.”
Telegram channel “Utro Dagestan” was associated with former member of the State Duma Ilya Ponomarev living in Kyiv. He previously said that he finances the channel, but does not determine its editorial policy. On Sunday, he said that the launched channel “went free-floating.”
At the time of publication of the news, the last message on the Utro Dagestan channel was published at 19:55 Moscow time. Curses against “Jews” and appeals for Palestine still sound there.
- In the evening of Sunday, October 29, about one and a half thousand people seized the Makhachkala airport, coming there with an anti-Semitic protest before the arrival of a flight from Tel Aviv. Those gathered protested against Israel and demanded the expulsion of Jews from the region.
- Anti-Semitic actions took place over the weekend in other cities of the North Caucasus. On October 28, a rally was held in Cherkessk, the capital of the Karachay-Cherkess Republic, demanding that residents of Israel not be allowed into the republic. More than 30 people have been detained. On the night of October 29, residents of Derbent in Dagestan protested against the fictitious settlement of refugees from Israel in local hotels. In Nalchik, unknown persons set fire to car tires on the construction site of the Jewish cultural center.
