PMC “Wagner” will not sign contact with the Ministry of Defense of Russia. This was reported by PMC founder Yevgeny Prigozhin.
On June 10, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu ordered all Russian volunteer formations to sign contracts with the Ministry of Defense by July 1 in order to create “unified approaches to the organization of comprehensive support and the fulfillment of their tasks.”
In its reports, the Ministry of Defense called the mercenaries of PMC “Wagner” as volunteers of assault detachments.
In response, Prigozhin stated that Shoigu’s decrees apply to employees of the Ministry of Defense and military personnel. “The PMC “Wagner” is organically integrated into the general system, the PMC “Wagner” coordinates its actions with generals on the right and left, with commanders of subdivisions, has the deepest experience and is a highly effective structure,” says the press service of Prigozhin.
The businessman also noted that “Shoigu cannot properly manage military formations.”
- Private military company “Wagner” is a Russian unofficial military unit that takes part in ground operations in Syria, Africa and in the war with Ukraine. Company fighters are accused of committing numerous war crimes, including extrajudicial executions.
- In the summer of last year, after several military defeats by the Russian army on the territory of Ukraine, PMC “Wagner” began to recruit prisoners into its ranks and send them to war. Tens of thousands of fighters were recruited into the PMC.
- Against the background of the battles for Bakhmut, Prigozhin repeatedly published videos with sharp criticism of Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu and Chief of the General Staff Valery Gerasimov.
- Prigozhin accused them of a lack of ammunition, surrender of “Russian land” and promised that he would deal with them until “retribution overtakes these characters.” The Ministry of Defense does not comment on such statements.
