Poland is building a road checkpoint on the border with Ukraine: when will it be operational

The Polish side is building a permanent checkpoint on the border with Ukraine and plans to launch it in a joint mode at the beginning of 2024 – now it works in a temporary mode.

This is stated in articles EP.

The checkpoint “Nižankovychy – Malhovice” was launched in February this year. Now it works in a “temporary” mode and allows only empty trucks to pass, which has already allowed neighboring checkpoints to be unloaded. It looks like a modular house with a concrete road.

However, in the meantime, the Poles on their side are building a permanent checkpoint that will allow the passage of trucks weighing up to 7.5 tons. Such cars are relatively small, but they are mainly used by exporters of products with a large added value – food products such as meat, dairy products, electronics.

The construction is planned to be completed by the end of 2023, and cars will drive through it in the first quarter of next year.

In addition, Ukraine, together with its partners, is considering the construction of new checkpoints on priority routes – Poland and Romania, because these borders are the busiest.

“We have points where we can theoretically build checkpoints, but we need to analyze how much it will cost, what it will give in terms of cargo and passengers. If new checkpoints are opened, they will most likely be small, passenger ones.” – said Derkach.

Such points are easier to build, and at the same time they will help to unload large passes for trucks.
