Putin met with Kadyrov, approved the construction of a mosque in Moscow

Russian President Vladimir Putin met with the head of Chechnya, Ramzan Kadyrov – a few days after the regional leader published a video of violence against 19-year-old Nikita Zhuravel, arrested on suspicion of burning the Koran, by his 15-year-old son Adam.

Kadyrov Sr. talked about the details of the meeting in his Telegram channel, but did not say whether his son’s actions were discussed at it. The federal mass media also did not report on this.

Instead, the head of Chechnya said that Putin approved the idea of ​​building a mosque on the outskirts of Moscow, in the Yuzhnoe Butovo district, on a street named after Ramzan Kadyrov’s father – the first president of the Chechen Republic, Akhmat Kadyrov.

In addition, according to the head of Chechnya, he discussed with Putin the “social and economic situation” in the region and the participation of Chechen armed units in the war in Ukraine. As Kadyrov wrote, the Russian president noted their successes “and a determined attitude in fulfilling the tasks.”

• A video of the burning of the Koran in Volgograd appeared on social networks on May 19. Two days later, law enforcement agencies reported the arrest of a local resident, a native of Ukraine, Nikita Zhuravel, who worked as a food delivery man. It is known that he moved to Volgograd from the annexed Crimea. The head of the Investigative Committee of Russia, Alexander Bastrykin, ordered the transfer of Zhuravel’s case to Chechnya. Soon, the 19-year-old teenager was taken to Grozny, where he was met with a summons to the “people’s court”. Representatives of the Russian authorities said that after the sentencing Zhuravel will serve his sentence in Chechnya – although formally the court has not yet issued a sentence of imprisonment.
• On August 16, the Commissioner for Human Rights in Chechnya said that Zhuravel told him about the beating of Ramzan Kadyrov’s 15-year-old son Adam. Representatives of law enforcement agencies did not react to this in any way and did not explain how an outsider could get into the pretrial detention center and beat the arrested person. Until recently, Ramzan Kadyrov also did not comment on the incident, but on September 25, the head of Chechnya published a video of the beating on the Internet, publicly approving the actions of his son. “He beat and did the right thing,” Kadyrov wrote about Adam’s concession, adding that he was proud of him.
• After the video appeared, neither state media nor official representatives of Russian law enforcement agencies commented on Adam Kadyrov’s actions. The press secretary of the President of Russia, Dmitry Peskov, at a briefing for journalists, asked not to talk to him about the incident at all, and when asked to clarify why he would not comment, Peskov answered: “I don’t want to.” A number of human rights defenders have announced their intention to send applications to the Prosecutor’s Office and the Investigative Committee to investigate Kadyrov Jr.’s actions for violations of Russian legislation. There are currently no investigations into the beating of Nikita Zhuravel.
