President Vladimir Putin signed a decree on swearing allegiance to Russia by soldiers of volunteer units, territorial defense, as well as employees of state security enterprises in the so-called “new regions”.
The document was published on Friday on the official Internet portal of legal information.
According to the decree, persons assisting the Russian army in carrying out its tasks in the area of the special military operation (this is what the Russian authorities call a full-scale invasion of Ukraine – RS) must take the oath.
Putin also approved the text of the oath.
- The mass media note that the document was signed two days after the alleged death in a plane crash of the founder of PMC “Wagner” Evgeny Prigozhin. The “March of the Wagnerites on Moscow” led by Prigozhin in June – against the military leadership of Russia – is called the biggest challenge to Putin’s entourage in almost 24 years of his being in power.
- Moscow considers Krym, annexed by it in 2014, to be Russian territory. In addition, in October 2022, Russia announced the inclusion of the Donetsk, Luhansk, Zaporozhye and Kherson regions of Ukraine. The Russian authorities refer to the results of the so-called referendum held in September on the issue of separation of territories. Kyiv and the international community called this “referendum” illegitimate.
