Putin signed a law on the publication of anonymized declarations of deputies

Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a law that will allow deputies and senators not to publish information about their income in public. The document is published on the official portal of legal information. It will enter into force on March 1, 2023.

According to the law, information about the income and property of deputies and senators will be published in a “generalized form” – specific names, sums of money, lists of real estate will be hidden from citizens. Voters will only be able to find out whether the deputy has submitted a declaration and whether there are any errors in it.

The State Duma adopted the bill on January 25. State Duma Chairman Vyacheslav Volodin noted then that no one forbids deputies to publish their declarations, for example, on social networks, and promised that he would do exactly that.

Previously, deputies were required to report to voters about their income and property, as well as their family’s income and property. The declarations were placed in open access on the websites of the relevant bodies.

In December of last year, Vladimir Putin signed a decree that exempts from declaring the income, expenses and property of the military, employees of law enforcement agencies and officials who take, previously took or will take part in military operations.
