RANKhiGS will fire teachers living abroad

The Russian Academy of National Economy and State Service under the President of Russia (RANChyGS) has decided to fire its employees who live abroad. This applies not only to teachers who left Russia after the start of the war in Ukraine, but also to those who have lived abroad for many years and cooperated with the Russian Academy of Sciences from their countries.

As reported by the publication “Agentstvo” with reference to two teachers of the university – current and former – the order to dismiss all foreign employees by the middle of June was received by the vice-rector “from above”.

In 2022, RANHiGS compiled lists of all employees working abroad and asked them when they intend to return to Russia. Those who do not wish to return until they have been told on what basis they will be fired, but it can be “at their own will” or “by agreement of the parties”, the interlocutor of the “Agency” was told at the academy.

• In January 2023, Vladimir Mau, who had headed the academy for 13 years and who in the early 1990s was Yegor Gaidar’s assistant in the government of reformers, left the post of Rector of the Russian Academy of Sciences. Before that, Mau spent a month under house arrest on charges of embezzlement of budget funds, but then the case was dropped. After the termination of the case, Mau left Russia.
