“Roscosmos” reported on Sunday about the start of processing by scientists of the first data from the scientific instruments of the automatic station “Luna-25” flying to the Earth’s satellite. It was launched from the Vostochny cosmodrome on August 11. This is the first launch of a mission to the moon in modern Russian history.

“Today, the first inclusions of a complex of scientific equipment, developed by the Institute of Space Research of the Russian Academy of Sciences, were carried out in the conditions of a space flight,” the press service of “Roscosmos” said on August 13. The state corporation noted that official telemetry information from all devices showed their normal operation.

Luna-25’s launch into lunar orbit is scheduled for August 16, and its soft landing is expected on August 21.

The main task of the device will be the development of soft landing technology. The mission may become the first device to land a natural satellite of the Earth on the South Pole, writes TASS. The station will study the internal structure and exploration of natural resources, including water, and will also study the effects of cosmic rays and electromagnetic radiation on the surface of the Moon.
