In Russian schools, starting with the new academic year in 2024, the subject “Fundamentals of security and protection of the family” will be introduced instead of general education, the program for which will be drawn up by employees of the Ministry of Defense. This was reported by RIA “Novosti” with reference to the deputy head of the Department of State Policy and Management in the field of general education.
According to the official, a “working group” with representatives of the Ministry of Defense and the Ministry of Emergency Situations will be responsible for the creation of a new educational program. The subject will also have its own textbook.
Minister of Education Sergey Kravtsov previously announced the replacement of the traditional school subject “Basic Life Safety” with “Basic Safety and Family Protection”.
- In June, the publishing house “Prosveschenie” published a textbook on military education with a module of initial military training for tenth grade students. Modules on military professional activity and the basics of state defense were also included in the 11th-grade curriculum of the OBJ.
- Even before the educational reforms of 2023, basic military training for high-school boys was included in the school course of general education.
