The Moscow City Court sentenced the artist for connection with a foreign state

The Moscow City Court sentenced St. Petersburg artist and activist Danyil Krynary in the criminal case of “confidential cooperation with the special services of a foreign state, an international or foreign organization or their representatives.”

At the same time, the press service of the Moscow City Court refused to tell journalists the term Krynar was sentenced to, although according to Russian legislation, sentences in criminal cases cannot be considered secret.

The article on “confidential cooperation” was introduced into the Russian Criminal Code in July 2022. The maximum punishment for it is eight years of imprisonment.

  • Daniil Krynar was detained in the Belarusian city of Grodno on December 21 by the Russian FSB. After that, he was taken to Moscow. The detainee’s wife claimed that the Krynars were being pursued because of the Telegram channel he ran. The Belarusian state channel ONT connects Daniil with the case of Russian Alexei Kulikov and Belarusian Vadym Patsenko. They were detained in April 2023 in connection with the preparation of terrorist attacks in Grodno and the attack on the Consulate General of Russia. ONT claims that “Russian oppositionist Daniil Krynary, aka Kovalevsky” helped Kulikova and Patsenko get to Grodno.
  • It is known that the Krynars were previously detained on September 24, 2022, before the action against the mobilization of Russians for the war against Ukraine. Then his apartment was searched allegedly in connection with the case of false mining. The artist was kept in a detention center for two days and released as a suspect.
