The ruling Social Democratic Party in Romania announced that it will appeal to the government to adopt an emergency decree on a temporary ban on the import of Ukrainian grain.
This is reported by “European Truth” with reference to Digi24.
“The SDP will demand the adoption of a political decision in the governing coalition, which obliges the Romanian government to urgently issue a regulatory act on the temporary suspension of the import of agricultural and food products from Ukraine, as happened in other states that share a common border with this country,” the party’s statement reads. on Tuesday
According to the Social Democrats, such a measure is necessary to protect Romanian farmers “in conditions where the compensations received from the European Commission cannot cover the total cost of the damages caused to them.”
Social democrats advocate that the states of Eastern Europe, which consider themselves affected by exports from Ukraine, conduct joint negotiations with representatives of the European Commission and the Ukrainian side.
“At the same time, the SDP believes that Romania should continue to support Ukraine by facilitating the transit of agri-food products from this country to other states of the European Union or to trade routes from the Black Sea,” the party said.
On Tuesday, the Polish mass media reported that the cost of the second support package of the European Commission for farmers from five countries affected by the influx of imports of Ukrainian agricultural products will amount to 100 million euros.
The Commission is taking this step after the decision of Poland, Hungary and Slovakia to ban the import of agricultural goods from Ukraine. Bulgaria is considering a similar decision.
