Russian schools will study the combat use of drones

From September 1, Russian schools will study the basics of the combat use of drones as part of the initial military training course. Deputy Chairman of the Council for the Development of the Digital Economy at the Federation Council, Senator Artem Sheykin, told RIA Novosti about this.

According to Sheykin, the relevant proposal was sent to the Ministry of Defense of Russia. It “was considered and supported, including by the Ministry of Education,” he asserts.

As part of the program, it is envisaged to “study the types, purpose, tactical and technical characteristics and general arrangement, conducting reconnaissance of the area and countermeasures against enemy UAVs”, according to the response of the Ministry of Defense of Russia, which the senator provided to the agency.

UAV control courses will be introduced in schools at the end of April 2023, President of Russia Vladimir Putin called. After that, educational institutions, as the investigation of “Important Histories” showed, began to purchase them for educational purposes.

• From September 1, 2023, the Basics of Life Safety course in Russian schools will include initial military training. It was previously reported that students of grades 10-11 will study the rules of shooting from a Kalashnikov assault rifle, the principles of operation of hand grenades and first aid in battle.
• On the eve of the State Duma, the State Duma decided to rename the discipline “Basics of Vital Life” (OBJ) to “Basics of Safety and Protection of the Family” from September 1, 2024. The changes provide for the appearance in the discipline of a module on initial military training and the basics of countering extremism and terrorism. The subject is mandatory, it will not be possible to refuse it.
• The Ministry of Defense supported the return to schools of the NVP, which recommended spending at least 140 hours on it in high school. Taking into account that in high school students must complete no more than 1122 study hours (in a five-day study week), initial military training will take about 12% of the total study time.
• Against the background of the war with Ukraine, state propaganda among children became more active in Russia. In schools, the school week begins with the singing of the national anthem and the raising of the flag, mandatory classroom hours “Talks about the important” have been introduced, during which children are told about a special military operation – that’s how the Russian authorities officially call the war against Ukraine.
