Negotiations for the acquisition of the aircraft continued even before the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, but were interrupted in September 2021, since Ryanair and Boeing could not agree on a mutually acceptable price.
In March, airline group CEO Michael O’Leary told Simple Flying that Ryanair had finally accepted that it would indeed have to pay more for these planes.
Ryanair’s Boeing 737 MAX order today brings the total number of MAX aircraft ordered by the Irish low-cost carrier to 360.
Now in the Ryanair fleet there are Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft with 197 seats. MAX 10 airliners will be able to accommodate 228 passengers, which is 21% more than Boeing 737−800s.
“Additional seats, lower fuel consumption and more attractive aircraft prices will widen the cost gap between Ryanair and its EU competitors for many years to come,” noted Ryanair CEO Michael O’Leary.

The airline will receive new aircraft in the period from 2027 to 2033. About half of the planes will replace older Boeing 737−800s, the rest are intended for fleet expansion.
Record for passenger transportation
In the last fiscal year, Ryanair carried 168 million passengers — this is a new record for the company. By 2034, the airline hopes to increase this indicator by a whopping 80% to 300 million passengers.
