The former prison colony No. 3 in the village of Harp in the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug, where politician Alexei Navalny served his sentence, repeatedly complained about the denial of medical assistance. This is stated in the investigation of the Radio Liberty project and the Current Time TV channel “Sistema”.

The journalists studied the court archive and other open sources and found out that the sanitary unit No. 11 of the FSIN is responsible for the medical care of the Harpa colony and 13 other colonies. It is headed by 48-year-old Svetlana Solopova. She was born into a family of a military man and a doctor and has been working in the FSIN system since 2006.

According to official data, 46-year-old Tatiana Bosykova is in charge of the colony where Navalny was held. Former inmates of colony No. 3, with whom “Meduza” spoke, claim that Bosykova is no longer in charge of the unit, and spoke extremely unflatteringly about her and her experience of treatment in the colony.

Many respondents complained about the refusal of medical assistance. Similar complaints by prisoners are found in court decisions studied by “Sistema”. In particular, one of the prisoners, mentioned by the investigators, broke his hip and asked the sleigh staff to give him an additional opportunity to rest, as well as give him a cane, but this was not done.

The investigators also found out that the surgeons in sledge #11 were unable to perform an operation on one of the prisoners. Due to the lack of overtime pay, they stopped being on duty at night and on weekends. As a result, from 4 p.m. to 8 a.m., only paramedics were on duty at the FSIN hospital. In 2018, this led to the death of a patient.

The additional load on paramedics is typical not only for the departmental hospital, but also for the sled unit in the colony where Navalny was located. They can be attracted to overtime work and systematically given time off, it became clear after an inspection by the local state labor inspectorate.

According to the official version of FSIN, Aleksey Navalny died in the colony on February 16. However, one of the prisoners in colony No. 3 told “Novaya gazeta Evropa” that the evening inspection on February 15 was greatly accelerated, after which the prisoners were dispersed among the barracks and security was increased.

The interlocutor told “New newspaper Europe” that in the morning the prisoners were subjected to a total check, which was not warned in advance. Navalny’s death in the colony became known around 10 a.m. local time (8 a.m. Moscow time). At the same time, the FSIN administration for the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous District announced the death of the politician around 4 p.m. local time.

The politician’s mother, who visited her son on a date a few days before his death, said that Navalny felt well and did not complain about his health. The fact that Navalny was in good health was also confirmed in the Vladimir regional court, where the politician spoke via video link on February 15.

The body of politician Alexei Navalny is in the morgue of the Salekhard District Clinical Hospital, Novaya Gazeta Evropa reported, citing its sources in the city.

According to Novaya, the autopsy has not yet been conducted. Presumably, local doctors are waiting for the arrival of specialists from Moscow. Until the results of the forensic medical examination are obtained, the body of the deceased cannot be handed over to a relative.

Earlier it was reported that Alexei Navalny’s mother Lyudmila and his lawyer went to the Salehard morgue, but it turned out to be closed, and they were told by phone that Navalny’s body was not there. It is not specified which morgue it was about – there are two of them in Salekhard.
