Sergey Furgal spoke with the last word in court

In the Moscow Regional Court, the defendants in the case of the former governor of the Khabarovsk Krai, Sergei Furgal, made the final statement about the contract killings of businessmen in the region. This was reported by the Telegram channel of the politician’s supporters.

It is noted that the judge repeatedly interrupted the defendants, accusing them of putting pressure on the jury.

In his speech, Furgal stated that a hundred witnesses were declared by the defense, but only two were questioned, the others were not admitted. According to him, all the witness documents and evidence are hidden by the investigation. The former governor of Khabarovsk Krai asked to justify his ego.

“Being in a position elected by the people, I could probably say: dear jurors, tens of thousands of people write guarantees for me, so many people voted for me. I’m not saying this! Don’t believe me or the prosecutors – believe the facts.” – said Furgal.

Former assistant to the governor Andrey Karepov said that his only sin is that he is familiar with Furgal. According to him, he does not expect condescension from the jury.

Andrey Paley, who is accused of murder at the direction of Furgal, said that he would never have thought that he would find himself in such a situation. “Young and without a family means a thief. Such a conclusion was made by those who accuse me of this crime. I ask for a correct decision.” – he said.

Marat Kadyrov, who is accused of an assassination attempt on Furgal’s instructions, said in his last words that he had never held a grenade in his hands, and that he only held small arms in the army. He asked the jury to make the right decision so that they would not be ashamed later. “I am clean before the law, clean before society.” – said the accused.

The Moscow Regional Court is expected to announce the verdicts in the Furgal case in early February.

• Sergei Furgal was detained in July 2020 on charges of organizing the murders of businessmen. He does not admit guilt, stating that there is no evidence against him, and the criminal case is actually based on the testimony of one person. In October 2021, two new criminal cases were opened against Furgal: fraud and the creation of a criminal community.
• Mass actions in support of Furgal took place in Khabarovsk in 2020 and 2021. The participants of the rallies, who were supported in other cities of Russia, demanded that the case be considered in Khabarovsk, and also called for the resignation of the current regional and federal authorities. Later, many activists were subjected to persecution: fines and arrests.
