Sergey Sokol withdrew his candidacy from the election of governor of Khakassia

The candidate from “United Russia” for the post of governor of Khakassia Sergey Sokol withdrew his candidacy from the elections. He announced this in his Telegram channel.
“I made a difficult but honest decision – to withdraw my candidacy from the election of the head of the republic. The team and family supported me. I count on your support and understanding. Today I cannot fully devote myself to the struggle for the post of governor,” he wrote.
Sokol is in the hospital with complications from peritonitis. As reported by the press service of “United Russia”, Sokol was urgently hospitalized in Moscow on the evening of August 31. Hospital doctors diagnosed the politician with venous mesenteric thrombosis and acute intestinal obstruction. According to Sokol, the doctors are categorical: “get up from the bed – get even more serious complications.”
The politician emphasized that he remains the head of the regional branch of “United Russia” and promised to return to work “as soon as he gets back on his feet.”
The election of the governor of Khakassia will be held next week. The movement for the protection of voters’ rights “Voice” called them the only competitive elections for the post of the head of the region. There were supposed to be four candidates on the ballot, but the main struggle was between Sokol and the current governor Valentyn Konovalov from the CPRF, who “sincerely wished” Sokol a speedy recovery. “The Voice” considered the results of the campaign unpredictable.
