Since the beginning of the year, Russian servicemen and mercenaries who returned home after participating in hostilities on the territory of Ukraine have committed at least 27 murders, according to the publication “Agentstvo”, based on open sources.

In 12 cases, the fighters of the private military company “Wagner” who were recruited in the colonies, where they were convicted and served their sentences, became defendants in criminal cases.

It is noted that the number of serious crimes committed by Russians returning from the war is increasing every month.

Only in the first days of October, ex-Wagner resident Denys Stepanov, who, according to the investigation, set fire to a house in Krasnoyarsk region with two women in it, and PMC fighter “Wagner” from Lipetsk, who is suspected of murder, were detained on suspicion of murder to his 4-year-old stepdaughter.

In the summer of last year, after several military defeats by the Russian army on the territory of Ukraine, the private military company “Wagner” and its founder, a businessman close to Vladimir Putin, Yevgeny Prigozhin, began to recruit prisoners into their ranks and send them to war. Convicts who agreed to take part in hostilities had to spend six months on the front line, they were forbidden to retreat and surrender under the threat of execution.

Those who remained alive were promised freedom. Thus, according to various estimates, 50 to 70 thousand fighters were recruited into the PMC. 32,000 of them, according to Prigozhin, returned and were pardoned for their participation in hostilities.

In February of this year, PMC “Wagner” stopped recruiting prisoners – this was taken up by the Ministry of Defense of Russia. In September, the agency announced plans to put all those held in Russian prisons on a “special military account.”

Also, mercenaries of the private military company “Wagner” from among former prisoners began to be accepted into the service of the Russian Guard.
