Athletes, coaches and staff of public sports schools in St. Petersburg were forbidden to travel abroad without the approval of the city sports committee. This is reported by RIA “Novosti” with reference to sources familiar with the situation.

The interlocutors of the publication told about the order, according to which it is forbidden to go to educational and training meetings and competitions outside of Russia. According to RIA Novosti sources, the ban also applies to travel abroad during vacations, but such trips may be permitted upon agreement with the committee.

Several directors of budget sports schools said that there was a list of “friendly” countries to which it was possible to travel. The interlocutors of the publication did not specify which countries were included in the list.

Later, the head of the St. Petersburg Biathlon Federation, Dmitry Vasiliev, told “Fontanka” that in order to travel to “friendly” countries, it is necessary to notify the city sports committee, and travel to “unfriendly” countries is prohibited at least since the spring of this year.

The authorities of St. Petersburg have not yet officially commented on this information.
