The prosecutor at the hearing in the Basmann District Court of Moscow on Tuesday asked to sentence the opposition politician, former Deputy Minister of Energy Vladimir Milov, to 9 years in prison in absentia on the charge of spreading fakes about the Russian army.
The accusation also required Mylova to be banned for five years from publishing materials on the Internet, “OVD-Info” notes.
The reason for the prosecution was the politician’s three-hour broadcast on the YouTube channel “Navalny Live” in March 2022 under the title “Putin’s Military Crimes”, in which Mylov spoke about the killing of civilians in Ukraine by the Russian military.
At the hearing, the prosecutor stated that in his video, Mylov “created a false opinion about the SVO” (that’s how the Russian authorities call the war in Ukraine – RS.). Also at the court, the prosecutor pointed out that Vladimir Mylov participated in protest actions in Russia and was detained for this, which allows us to see motives of hostility to the authorities in his actions, reports “Ostorozhno, Novosti”.
Elena Zaretskaya, a politician’s lawyer by appointment, believes that her client’s guilt has not been proven, and the video itself is “Mylov’s subjective personal opinion.” The verdict will be announced on November 16, SOTA notes.
- Mylov is a former Deputy Minister of Energy and an associate of Alexei Navalny. Since 2021, he lives outside of Russia. In May 2022, the Russian Ministry of Justice included the politician in the register of so-called foreign agents. He is a frequent guest of Radio Svoboda broadcasts.
