The accused in the murder of her ex-husband was left with parental rights

The court in Anapa deprived journalist Oksana Goncharova, accused of murdering her ex-husband, of her parental rights. This is reported by “Vyorstka” with reference to Goncharova’s lawyer and friend.

The defense will appeal the court’s decision. Goncharova has three sons: three, ten and 23 years old. After the arrest of the journalist, the deceased’s brother took custody of them, and he filed a lawsuit to deprive Goncharova of her parental rights. According to the accused’s lawyer, her sons are not allowed to correspond with her.

Former RBC and Vedomosti journalist Goncharova has been in pretrial detention for more than five months on charges of murdering her ex-husband, Alexei Samusyov. According to her testimony, in September he and his friend “broke into” her and the children’s apartment. Having drunk vodka, Samusyov began to beat Goncharova, grabbed a pair of scissors – she intercepted them and, defending herself, mortally wounded him. Samusev’s friend, whom the accused asked for help, did not intervene. “It’s useless,” he said in court.

Friends and colleagues of Goncharova said that Samusyov had been beating his wife for more than ten years, and she could not find protection either in the police or in court. “She doesn’t have a single intact rib, a broken nose, and several knocked out teeth. She divorced, but her ex-husband kept coming, beating her and showing aggression towards her children,” wrote fellow student Goncharova.

  • Over the past ten years, draft laws on the prevention of domestic violence have been submitted to the State Duma more than 40 times, but have not passed a single reading. In 2017, the article on beatings was removed from the Russian Criminal Code, and administrative responsibility was introduced for domestic violence.
  • According to the United Women’s Non-Governmental Consortium, almost two-thirds (61%) of the women killed in Russia in 2018 were victims of domestic violence. According to Rosstat, 8,300 women were killed in that hour, so there were about five thousand victims of domestic violence among them. These data are 20 times higher than the police data on victims of domestic violence.
