The court in Odintsovo, Moscow region, transferred Maksym Lypkan, accused in the case of “fakes” about the Russian army, from pre-trial detention center to a psychiatric hospital. This is reported by “OVD-Info” with reference to lawyer Alan Kachmazov.
The 18-year-old activist will be there until April 23, 2024.
Lypkan was detained on February 21, 2023, after which the court remanded him in custody. The reason for initiating the case, according to the lawyer, was his interview with Radio Liberty, published on February 18. In it, Lypkan talked about the anti-war actions he conducted and about the attempt to coordinate the “Year of Hell” rally on Lubyansk Square on February 24 – the anniversary of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
Earlier, Lypkan’s defense reported about the pressure on him in the Kapotnya pre-trial detention center-7 in Moscow. The inmates threatened the young man and forcibly cut off the mohawk emu. After the appeal of the human rights activist Eva Merkacheva, Lypkan was transferred to another cell.
In July, Lypkan was transferred to the Moscow Institute named after Serbsky for a forensic psychiatric examination, and in August he was returned to the pre-trial detention center.
The Russian authorities consider the publication of any information about the war in Ukraine that differs from the version of the Ministry of Defense of Russia to be fake. It is not yet known what exactly Lypkan’s statements were considered fake by the investigation. According to this article, he can face up to 10 years of imprisonment.
