Archpriest Leonid Kalinin, who was banned from ministry by Patriarch Kirill and released from all positions because of the “Trinity”, was hospitalized with a heart attack. This was reported by the Russian service of the BBC with reference to sources.

“He’s lying under a drip, his heart is bad,” said one of the BBC’s interlocutors. Both sources of the publication noted that Archpriest Leonid Kalinin himself will not comment on information about his health in the media.

On May 27, Patriarch Kirill released Kalinin from his post and banned him from serving for “obstructing” the transfer of the “Trinity” icon of Andrei Rublev to the Cathedral of Christ the Savior. The archpriest held the position of chairman of the ROC expert council on church art and restoration.

Vladimir Putin ordered the transfer of the icon from the Tretyakov Gallery to the church. Kalinin participated in the meeting of the extended restoration council of the Tretyakov Gallery, where the possibility of transferring the icon of the Russian Orthodox Church was discussed. He agreed with the museum specialists that it is impossible to hand over the ROC “Trinity” because of its condition.

As Kalinin told RBC, he had a number of questions regarding the preparation of the transportation and placement of the icon in the Trinity Cathedral. For example, a special booth was not prepared for her, and air conditioners were installed in the temple. At the same time, Kalinin asserted that these issues are solved by the joint efforts of the church and the museum community.

• In July 2022, the Tretyakov Gallery handed over the icon of the Russian Orthodox Church for several days to celebrate the 600th anniversary of the discovery of the relics of St. Sergius of Radonezh. Then the museum community strongly objected to this. It was claimed that when the work was returned, more than 60 were found to be damaged.
• Andrei Rublev created the “Trinity” in the 15th century. The icon is considered the most famous work of the ego. Until 1929, the icon was in the Trinity Cathedral of the Holy Trinity Sergius Lavra, and then it entered the collection of the Tretyakov Gallery.
