On the night of February 29, the Special Operations Forces of the Ukrainian Armed Forces reported the death in battle of a group of their soldiers from the 73rd Marine Center.

“Ensuring the withdrawal of the main forces of the group after the completion of a special task, the military took their last battle, remaining in the formation forever,” the message says. The number of the dead, as well as the place of their death, was not specified in the message.

Ukrainian broadcaster “Suspilne” reports that a group of fighters died while trying to gain a foothold on the Tendrovskaya spit in the northern part of the Black Sea, along the coast of the Kherson region.

The 73rd Marine Center is part of the special intelligence of the Special Operations Forces. Its fighters, together with other units of the Defense Forces and the police, at the beginning of the full-scale invasion of Russia, prevented the landing of the airborne troops of the Russian army at the airfield “Kulbakino” in Nikolaev. Also, the 73rd Marine Center of the SSO took part in the operation to liberate Snake Island on July 7, 2022, notes the Ukrainian Service of Radio Liberty.

Officials of the Russian-occupied part of the Kherson region and the state-run Russian mass media reported that “a group of Ukrainian saboteurs was destroyed” when they tried to land on the Tendrovo spit. The Mash Telegram channel wrote that the Ukrainian military tried to land on the Tendrovskaya spit in five boats. As a result of the battle, the Russian military destroyed four boats, the fifth managed to escape. According to reports, at least 20 Ukrainian servicemen were killed, one was wounded and captured. “Meduza” drew attention to the message.
