The court in Moscow sentenced the artist Hryhoriy Mumrykov to one and a half years of forced labor in the case of the failed rally in support of Ukraine on Red Square in Moscow on May 9, 2022. He was found guilty under the article of attempted hooliganism committed by a group of persons. This is reported by “OVD-Info”.
Until the entry into force of the sentence, Mumrykov will continue to be under house arrest. The artist’s lawyer specified that, taking into account the time spent by her under protection in a pre-trial detention center and under house arrest, he will have four months and 11 days of mandatory imprisonment.
State prosecution demanded four years of prison for Mumrykov. According to the investigation, he participated in the preparation of the action that his friend, the artist Danyla Tkachenko, wanted to hold. During the Victory Day parade, he was going to blow smoke in the colors of the Ukrainian flag in the center of Moscow. To do this, he installed smoke bombs in the air conditioners of the house on Tverskaya Street. The action did not take place, since law enforcement officials learned about its preparation in advance.
Tkachenko, who left Russia, said that Mumrykov did not even know about the action. The artist was detained by unknown persons in civilian clothes on May 10, when he was leaving work. Friends who were traveling with him reported that they hit him several times, put him face down on the ground and put a gun to his head. After that, the police came and took Mumrykov to the department. Mumrykov spent almost three months in the SIZO.
