The Bard chatbot made a mistake and crashed shares of Google’s parent company
Google Corporation presented search with Bard chatbot based on artificial intelligence. He made a mistake when answering the question. Shares of Alphabet, the parent company of Google, fell amid fears that it is now losing ground to its rival, Microsoft.
Reuters was the first to draw attention to the error. In the presentation video, the Bard chatbot is asked: “What new discoveries of the James Webb space telescope can you tell your nine-year-old child about?”. Among other things, Bard answers that with the help of a telescope, they obtained the first images of planets outside the Solar System. However, this is not so: the first pictures of exoplanets were taken by the VLT telescope back in 2004, which is confirmed by NASA.
The corporation acknowledged the error and stated that Bard was released for testers only and is not available to all users.
Google held a presentation of its search engine with Bard the day after a similar event by Microsoft, which announced the launch of a public version of its Bing search system with ChatGPT functions. Unlike its competitor, Google did not specify when and how it will integrate Bard into its search engine.
After the mistake, due to the fear of investors that the Alphabet company may lose in this fight to its rival, its shares fell in price by one hundred billion dollars. By the end of the auction, their value was almost completely restored.
