NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg in an interview with Radio Svoboda / Radio Free Europe in Brussels commented on the death of opposition leader Alexei Navalny and the withdrawal of the Ukrainian Armed Forces from Avdeevka. According to him, both of these events should draw the attention of NATO and its allies to the need to increase military assistance to Ukraine.

“I am confident that the best way to honor Navalny’s memory is to prevent Putin from winning on the battlefield, to ensure the superiority of Ukraine,” Stoltenberg said.

The withdrawal of Ukrainian troops from Avdeevka after months of heavy fighting, the head of NATO said, also demonstrates that Ukraine needs large amounts of military support. According to Stoltenberg, the death of Navalny in the colony and the delay in the examination of the circumstances of his death should draw even closer attention to the authoritarian nature of the Kremlin regime.

Stoltenberg also said that while the approval of the package of US military aid to Ukraine in the amount of 61 billion dollars is delayed in the House of Representatives, other countries are increasing their support. Among them are Sweden, Canada and Japan.

The Secretary General of NATO was unable to answer the question of when the Ukrainian Armed Forces can receive F-16 bombers, the supply of which Ukraine has been asking for for almost two years. He repeated that all of Ukraine’s allies would like the F-16 to be there as soon as possible, but said that for this, pilots and mechanics must also be trained, and that “it is better to ask military experts” about the terms of possible deliveries.
