The brother of Bashkir activist Ruslan Gabbasov was arrested in Ufa

The Kirovsky District Court of Ufa arrested 33-year-old Rustam Fararetdinov, the brother of Bashkir activist Ruslan, for two months Gabbasova. Gabbasov himself informed “Idel.Realii” about this. He is charged with an article about assisting a terrorist organization. The punishment under this article is from seven to 15 years of imprisonment.

Yesterday, Rustam Fararetdinov was detained in his house in the village of Kurmanaevo in the Aurgazinsky district of Bashkortostan and after a search was taken to Ufa. At the same time, law enforcement officers, according to Fararetdinov’s wife, said that he “will sit for his brother.” After some time, Ruslan Gabbasov reported that his brother contacted his wife, told her that “a criminal case was opened against him under the extremist article.”

— The brother said to his wife: “Give it to Ruslan – if he comes [в Россию]then they will release me, if not, then they will put me in prison,” Gabbasov said.

According to Gabbasov, the brother can be persecuted only in order to avenge him himself. Rustam Fararetdinov is far from politics, works in production, has three children.

In March 2023, law enforcement officials detained Ruslan Gabbasov’s mother and brother, but released them after questioning.

• Before leaving Russia, Ruslan Gabbasov was one of the leaders of the public organization “Bashkort”, which supported the expansion of Bashkortostan’s autonomy. Ego was repeatedly detained at actions in Ufa. In 2000, “Bashkort” was recognized as an extremist organization, its activities are prohibited in Russia. Gabbasov left Russia.
