At the same time, the area of the camp began to decrease long before the crash of the plane in Russia, on which PMC founder Yevgeny Prigozhin allegedly died.
The camp in Belarus was established at the end of June, after the mutiny of PMC “Wagner”, after which the mercenaries went to Belarus. According to RFE/RL’s calculations, about 129 tents were located in the northern part of the camp, 65 of them were dismantled. In the western part of the camp, about 27 out of 64 tents were dismantled, in the central part – about 9 out of 80. Thus, out of 273 living tents, about 101 were dismantled.
According to the publication, the process of dismantling the tents began on August 1. The photo taken on August 14 shows several tents that have begun to be dismantled. The “Belarusian Gayun” project, which monitors military activity in Belarus, writes that from July 28 to August 15, the camp was dismantled about 35 tents out of almost 300, and the situation in the camp near Osipovichi is constantly changing.
The Belarusian service of Radio Liberty, referring to the satellite images available in the editorial office, indicates that new tent cities were not built on the territory of other Belarusian training grounds or military units.
- On August 23, a plane belonging to the founder of PMC “Wagner” Evgeny Prigozhin crashed in the Tver region. Rosaviatsiya published a list of passengers with ten names, among them is the name of Prigozhin himself, as well as the commander of PMC Dmitry Utkin. Rescuers found the remains of ten people at the crash site. Telegram channels associated with PMC “Wagner” confirmed the death of Evgeny Prigozhin, the same information was disseminated by the state mass media. There is no official confirmation of Prigozhin’s death.
- After the mercenaries arrived in Belarus, the Polish authorities began to additionally strengthen the border with this country. In Warsaw, they say that the possible death of Prigozhin does not mean the disappearance of the threat from the Russian PMC.
