The case of Volgograd resident Nikita Zhuravel, who is accused of burning the Koran, was submitted to the Grozny Vysaitovsky District Court. The first court hearing is scheduled for October 9.

The “Mediazon” publication, with a link to the court’s website, reports that Zhuravel has been charged with two counts: insulting religious sentiments committed in places intended for religious services and religious ceremonies; as well as about hooliganism motivated by religious hatred, committed by a group of persons by prior agreement.

At the same time, it follows from the video of the burning of the Koran, which was the basis of the accusation, that the action took place on the street at some distance from the mosque in Volgograd – it is visible in the background.

The case of Nikita Zhuravel will be considered against the background of the public reaction to his beating by the son of the head of Chechnya, Adam Kadyrov, and the inaction of state structures.

Earlier on Wednesday, it became known that the police of Chechnya refused to open a criminal case on the fact that Zhuravel was beaten in the Grozny pre-trial detention center by Adam Kadyrov. The police explained this decision by the fact that the 15-year-old son of the head of Chechnya has not yet reached the age of criminal responsibility.
