The coordinator of Navalny’s headquarters in Makhachkala was sentenced to 7.5 years in prison

The prosecutor’s office demanded 7.5 years of imprisonment to Eduard Ataev, the former coordinator of the opposition headquarters of Alexei Navalny in Makhachkala. This was reported by Kavkaz.Realii with reference to the press service of the court.

Ataeva is accused of possessing weapons, explosives and drugs. He claims that law enforcement officers used violence against him, and also threw weapons and drugs during the search. Ataev believes that his case has political motives and does not recognize himself as guilty.

At the end of October, the court suspended consideration of the activist’s case, as the prosecutor’s office began an investigation into his claim of torture. Judging by the fact that the meetings resumed, the inspection did not lead to the initiation of a case.

• Ataev repeatedly went on single pickets in Makhachkala, demanding to review the results of the elections in the Khasavyurt district.
• In April 2021, the prosecutor’s office suspended the activities of the public organization “Navalny Headquarters” in the regions. On April 30, it became known about its inclusion in the list of organizations involved in extremist activities or terrorism.
