The Krasnodar Regional Court acquitted policemen Vyacheslav Zyabkin and Vladimir Tatarkov, who in 2019 broke the leg of a local resident Yevgeny Manchenko, who climbed over the fence of his house. This was reported by the “Team Against Torture”.

Earlier, the Prikuban District Court of Krasnodar found the policemen guilty of exceeding their official powers. Zyabkina and Tatarkova were sentenced to four and three years of conditional imprisonment, respectively. Now the regional court did not find any signs of exceeding the authority of the police and satisfied their appeal. In it, they denied their guilt, and called the beating of Manchenko “an invention of his relatives.”

Manchenko’s lawyers do not agree with the regional court’s decision and intend to file a cassation appeal.

The incident with the beating of Manchenko occurred on March 10, 2019. According to him, he was returning to his house in the country village. The gate to the house was closed, and he forgot the keys. Manchenko tried to climb over the fence, but at that moment Zyabkin and Tatarkov saw him. According to the victim, they began to beat him with a club. He could not resist the blows and fell to the ground, where the policemen continued to strike him. At Manchenko’s screams, his parents ran out of the house. They sent an ambulance to the scene.

Manchenko is a disabled person of the 3rd group and has special developmental features. After the beating by the police, doctors discovered a closed fracture of the middle third of the left femur with displacement of bone fragments. Manchenko spent two weeks in the hospital. His parents appealed to the Investigative Committee with a request to open a criminal case against Zyabkin and Tatarkov.
