The Basmanny Court of Moscow arrested in absentia the publisher of “Mediazony” and Pussy Riot participant Petro Verzilov in the case of “fakes” about the Russian army. This is reported by “Mediazona”.

As Verzilov previously said, tweets and posts on Instagram with stories about the murders in Bucha became the reason for the initiation of the case. According to the investigation, with his publications, he “created a real threat of forming a false opinion among citizens about the goals and objectives of a special military operation.” The SC also claims that Verzilov’s posts contain a message “capable of causing an unreasonable increase in social tension and harming the interests of the Russian Federation.” Verzilov is abroad.

  • In December 2022, Verzilov’s mother’s apartment in Moscow was searched. He was served with a summons for questioning as a witness. Later, the house of Pussy Riot participant Rita Flores (Margarita Konovalova) was searched.
  • A criminal case has also been initiated against Verzilov for not notifying the Russian authorities of his foreign citizenship. In January, the Basmanny Court of Moscow refused to arrest him in absentia in this case. The judge indicated that this article of the Criminal Code describes a crime of minor gravity and does not imply detention.
