The court arrested Yulia Tsvetkova, an artist and LGBT activist from Komsomolsk-on-Amur, in absentia, for six months in connection with the distribution of pornography. The Ministry of Internal Affairs declared her a federal wanted person, she said in a telegram.
She was already acquitted of this charge in July 2022, after which she left the country. At the end of March 2023, the 9th Court of Cassation in Vladivostok overturned the acquittal and sent the case to the Komsomolsk-on-Amur court for a new trial.
The reason for the criminal prosecution of Tsvetkova was her drawings on the “Vagina Monologues” page in “VKontakte”. Since November 2019, she was under house arrest, later under a restraining order. She announced a hunger strike, demanding to make the trial open, the Ministry of Justice included her in the list of so-called foreign agents.
Civic activists defended the artist, she was included in the list of the most influential women in the world compiled by the BBC.
