VKontakte blocks posts with mourning relatives of the mobilized

The social network VKontakte has begun to block the posts of relatives mobilized for the war in Ukraine. The publication “Vazhney istorii” drew attention to this. We are talking about posts in which relatives demand to return their loved ones home or at least give them leave.
As a reason for blocking the social network, it cites the request of the Prosecutor General’s Office, which concerns “inauthentic” information about the war in Ukraine.
Relatives – mainly the mothers and wives of those who have been mobilized – complain that in the military units they do not rotate servicemen, and their relatives are not given vacations to recover their strength and see their families. They also demand to limit the term of service for mobilization – for example, one year.
The blocks apply to groups in which family members of servicemen communicate. Posts that have been blocked are accompanied by the hashtags “#mobilized by advice”, “#vernyomrebyat” and others.
Blocking is carried out only on the territory of Russia. Blocked resources are available to Russian users via VPN.
- On September 21, 2022, the President of Russia Vladimir Putin signed the order to carry out partial mobilization for the war in Ukraine. Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said that 300,000 people should be called up for mobilization.
- In September of this year, the chairman of the State Duma defense committee, Andrey Kartapolov, said that rotation of the mobilized was not foreseen. “They will return home after the end of the special military operation,” he said.
