In the USA, a jury found the 45th president of the country, Donald Trump, guilty of sexual harassment of journalist and writer Jean Carroll, reports CNN. The jury ordered that the victim of the crime be paid compensation in the amount of almost five million dollars.
Carroll brought the charges against Trump four years ago. The journalist claimed that in 1996 she met the future president of the United States in a department store in New York. Allegedly, he offered her to try on the underwear he was choosing for a gift to another woman, and when Carroll agreed, he took her to the fitting room and raped her.
Trump denies the charges. He claimed that Carroll blackmailed him to sell more books. At the same time, he refused to defend himself and testify in court. Commenting on the court’s decision, Trump said that “the verdict is a disgrace and a continuation of the greatest witch hunt of all time.”
In parallel with the harassment case, another case against Trump is being heard in a New York court – on charges of paying porn actress Stormy Daniels $130,000 in 2016 for keeping quiet about a sexual relationship with her. The District Attorney’s Office of Manhattan believes that Trump violated the election legislation and used money from the election fund. The former US president and his lawyers deny guilt and the very fact of the crime, calling what is happening “political persecution.”
