The Court of Cassation in Vladivostok overturned the acquittal of the artist Yulia Tsvetkova in the case of drawings of the vulva on the VKontakte social network. This was reported by the Telegram channel “Ostrozhno, novosti” with reference to the artist’s lawyer.
The mother of Tsvetkova confirmed the information about the cancellation of the sentence to the publication “Novaya Gazeta Evropa”. According to her, the FSB was involved in the decision.
According to the court’s decision, the case will be re-examined in the first instance in Komsomolsk-on-Amur.
Yulia Tsvetkova left Russia in November 2022, the day after the acquittal was upheld in the appeals court.
- A criminal case against Tsvetkova was initiated in 2019 after the publication of drawings of the vulva in the “Vagina Monologues” section of the Vkontakte social network. The artist was accused of distributing pornography. Tsvetkova did not admit guilt.
- The investigation of the case continued for more than two years, during which Tsvetkova was under a restraining order, as well as under house arrest. In March 2021, the court began considering the merits of the case.
- The accusation called for three years in prison for the artist, but in July of last year, the court in Komsomolsk-on-Amur acquitted Tsvetkova under exculpatory circumstances. The prosecutor’s office appealed the sentence. In November 2022, the Khabarovsk Regional Court finally acquitted Tsvetkova.
- In the summer of 2022, the Ministry of Justice of Russia added Tsvetkova to the register of “foreign agents”.
