Angarsky city court rejected the petition for conditional early release of Andrey Levchenko, the son of the former governor of the Irkutsk region, Sergey Levchenko. This is reported on the court’s website.
The court returned Levchenko’s application with the explanation that he has the right to apply again “after eliminating the shortcomings specified in the decision.” Andrey Levchenko is serving his sentence in IK-14 in the Irkutsk region on charges of fraud.
Former deputy of the Legislative Assembly of the Khabarovsk Territory, Andrey Levchenko, was sentenced to 9 years in a strict regime colony in July 2022. Later, the court reduced the sentence to 6 years. He was found guilty of embezzling money from the regional Fund for the capital repair of apartment buildings during the execution of contracts for the repair of elevators. The investigation estimated the damage to the budget at 185 million rubles. Levchenko has been in custody since the fall of 2020.
Andriy Levchenko pleaded not guilty. The former governor of the Irkutsk region and now a member of the State Duma from the CPRF, Sergey Levchenko, called his son’s sentence “characteristic of today’s era”, because “any decent citizen can be slandered and sent to prison.”

A rally in support of Levchenko was held in Irkutsk. The participants of the action believed that the federal center had forced the governor to leave his post.
