The editor-in-chief of the pro-Kremlin publication “Oktagon.Media” Igor Ryabov was detained in Moscow. As part of the criminal case against him, investigative actions are being conducted in the Russian capital, TASS reported with reference to information from law enforcement agencies.
Earlier on Tuesday, the SHOT Telegram channel published information from its source that Ryabov was detained in a defamation case. Together with him, another employee of Oktagon.Media – Maryna Hayko – was detained in the same case.
The TASS message also mentions the detention of Ryabov’s employee, but the name is not given, as are the details of the case. The interlocutor of the agency said only that Igor Ryabov was “detained in the course of operative and investigative activities in the criminal case conducted by the Cybercrime Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.” After the search of his apartment, the chief editor of Oktagon.Media will be taken to the investigative authorities for questioning. At the same time, TASS writes that the detained agency was told about Ryabov’s possible attitude to the administration of anonymous political telegram channels.
The SHOT source noted that the detention of two employees of the “Oktagon.Media” editorial office may be connected with the publication of lists of persons financing the Armed Forces of Ukraine in May of this year on the “Image of Future” channel. In these lists, among others, was the name of the wife of the governor of the Leningrad Region, Alexander Drozdenko – Irina, the Telegram channel writes. The mass media reported that Iryna Drozdenko filed a defamation complaint with the police, after which a criminal case was initiated.
As noted by RTVI, Ryabov is a political scientist, head of the Crimean Project expert group. “Oktagon.Media”, where he holds the post of editor-in-chief, was at various times associated with political scientist Dmitry Orlov, “Russian Copper Company”, “Russian Media Group” and “Life” employees.
