Several ministers of foreign affairs of the EU countries have called for imposing sanctions on oligarchs involved in destabilization attempts in Moldova and Georgia.

This is written by Politico, “European Truth” reports.

Russia’s invasion of Ukraine has led to growing fears of Moscow’s meddling in the politics of neighboring countries – particularly in Moldova, where pro-European President Maia Sandu has publicly exposed Kremlin plans to overthrow the government.

Meanwhile, two weeks ago, thousands of people demonstrated in Tbilisi to protest against a controversial bill on “foreign agents” that the president of Georgia said was dictated by Moscow.

“These two countries are facing attempts at destabilization that require our utmost vigilance, and it would be justified to start considering the possibility of introducing sanctions against those responsible for these attempts,” French Foreign Minister Catherine Colonna said.

Her Romanian and Estonian colleagues also called on the EU to impose sanctions on pro-Russian oligarchs in Moldova.

Estonian Minister Urmas Reinsalu stated that the EU “is responsible for attracting and creating a new mechanism of sanctions against Russian agents, against those oligarchs in Moldova who are preparing a coup d’état.”

We will remind, Moldova prepares personal sanctions regarding a number of persons in connection with Russia’s war against Ukraine, the first decisions may be announced in a few weeks.
