Ukrainian banks doubled their profits in January-February

In January-February, Ukrainian banks earned UAH 21.5 billion, which is more than double the figures for January-February last year.

Thus, solvent banks in January-February 2023 received UAH 21.5 billion in net profit, which is 2.2 times more than in the same period last year – UAH 9.9 billion.

Banks’ income increased by 33% compared to the result of January-February 2022 and amounted to UAH 65.8 billion, expenses – by 12% to UAH 44.3 billion.

At the same time, the regulator updated the data in terms of banks as of February 1. Thus, in January, the state-owned Privatbank traditionally earned the most (6.3 billion UAH), followed by the state-owned Savings Bank (2.2 billion UAH). Raiffeisen Bank (UAH 715 million), Sens Bank (UAH 680 million) and state-owned Ukreximbank (UAH 623 million) were among the top five most profitable banks in January.

At the end of January, 7 banks were unprofitable: Bank Forward, whose liquidation was decided by the NBU in March; Industrialbank, First Investment Bank, “Ukrainian Capital”, BTA Bank, Motor Bank, and Alpari Bank.

In total, banks with a state share in January earned UAH 9.4 billion, banks of foreign groups – UAH 3.4 billion, and banks with private capital – UAH 1.9 billion.
