The European Union agreed on the 12th package of sanctions against Russia in response to its invasion of Ukraine. Also, sanctions have already been imposed by Great Britain and Japan.
According to Reuters, the latest package was approved by Austria, which tried to get Raiffeisen Bank International excluded from the Ukrainian blacklist. The bank was included in the register because of its work in Russia after its attack on Ukraine – and it is still there.
Among other things, the new package of sanctions tightens the requirements for documents to comply with restrictions on Russian oil. European companies will also be required to include in their contracts a clause prohibiting the re-export of dual-use goods to Russia.
In addition, the package includes a ban on the import of Russian non-industrial diamonds from January 2024 and a phased ban on the import of Russian diamonds processed in third countries from March 2024.
Earlier, the countries of the “Group of Seven” took a similar decision. Great Britain and Japan have already implemented it at the national level. Japan also imposed sanctions against 19 Russians and 43 Russian organizations. The Yunarmiya movement, the Center of Applied Physics of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Tatyana Moskalkova and Igor Chaika (also known as IFYAU9, the document notes) fell under the restrictions.
