The European Union is preparing substantial financial assistance to Ukraine

The European Union will allocate a new financial aid package to Ukraine, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced on Monday, January 24, during the summit.
– The EU supports Ukraine. We are firm in our determination. I am announcing a new package of financial aid consisting of emergency loans and grants to support Ukraine in the medium and long term, she said.
The volume of financial assistance will amount to 1.2 billion euros, the first tranche of 600 million euros can be transferred in the near future.
Von der Leyen expressed hope that the European Council and the European Parliament will approve this decision as soon as possible.
– Then we will begin the quick payment of the first tranche in the amount of 600 million euros. Moreover, we will soon begin work on a second, longer-term program of macro-financial assistance to support the country’s modernization efforts. Secondly, this year the Commission will almost double bilateral aid to Ukraine in the form of grants: another 120 million euros will be allocated. This support will strengthen Ukraine’s efforts in state building and stability, – said the head of the EC.
She also reported that the EC will continue to invest in the country’s future “thanks to our investment plan.”
– This plan is aimed at attracting investments in the amount of more than 6 billion euros. Allow me to clarify once again: Ukraine is a free and sovereign country. She makes her own choice. The EU will continue to stand by her side, von der Leyen said.
Von der Leyen said that last week she discussed the situation in Ukraine with President Volodymyr Zelensky.
Earlier, mass media reported that Ukraine applied to the EU for new loans of 1.2 billion euros.
