The Nova-Sy space probe made a sound on Thursday, February 22, becoming the first private one in history and the first American – half a century after the Apollos.

After listening, the module transmitted one weak signal, despite the dispatchers’ efforts to establish better contact with it. “But we can confirm without a doubt that our equipment is on the surface of the Moon,” said the director of the mission, called “Odyssey”, Tim Crane.

The company Intuitive Machines, which built and operated the ship, did not tell about the condition and exact location of the Nova-Sy. She also stopped the live broadcast shortly after confirming his landing, writes Politico.

Intuitive Machines became the first private company to land its own spacecraft. Last month, the American company Astrobotic Technology failed to do so, and even earlier – private companies from Israel and Japan.

Nova-Si also became the first American module on the Moon since Apollo 17, which landed in 1972 with astronauts Eugene Cernan and Harrison Schmitt.

On board “Nova-Sy” are devices for collecting data about the lunar surface and the environment. Only five countries reached the surface of the Moon: USSR, USA, India, China and Japan.
