Former member of the State Duma and member of the United Russia party, Robert Schlegel, who moved to Germany in 2019, published an anti-war post on the Facebook social network, at the same time supporting imprisoned Russian oppositionists.

“Almost an hour ago, a war that no one wanted, except for Vladimir Putin, began, which takes many lives every day… I am categorically against what is happening, and I believe that the people who spoke out against the war and are being punished – Navalny, Yashin, Roizman and many others are real heroes. I believe that those who do not remain silent and take action to end the war as soon as possible deserve the deepest respect. I would like to express words of solidarity and support to these people… Russia lives by the beating of these brave hearts people,” wrote Schlegel.

Robert Shlegel became a member of the State Duma from United Russia at the age of 23 (in 2007). He got into the party as the press secretary of the pro-Kremlin youth movement “Nashi”.

Schlegel worked in the parliament until 2016. He voted for the so-called “Dyma Yakovlev law”, which established a ban on the adoption of Russian children by US citizens, for the annexation of Crimea, and also opposed the establishment of ties with the European Union due to his “anti-Russian rhetoric bordering on Russophobia”. Also, the deputy sent a request to the Prosecutor General’s Office with the requirement to check the TV channel “Dozhd” due to the broadcast of protest rallies.

In 2019, Schlegel moved to Germany and received citizenship of this country. Most recently, he worked at the cybersecurity company Acronis as director of strategic projects and operations.
