The countries of the “Group of Seven” agreed on measures to limit the import of Russian diamonds. They are planned to be introduced by January 1, 2024, according to the G7 statement published by the British Prime Minister’s Office.
“We will introduce restrictions on the import of non-industrial diamonds mined, processed or produced in Russia by January 1, 2024. This will be followed by phased restrictions on the import of Russian diamonds processed in third countries. The tentative date for the beginning of these restrictions is March 1, 2024.” – the document reports.
By September 1, 2024, the G7 countries that import rough diamonds will also introduce a mechanism for checking and certifying such diamonds.
In addition, it became known on Wednesday that Great Britain imposed sanctions against 46 individuals and companies from different countries involved in Russian military supply chains. Organizations working in China, Turkey, Serbia, and Uzbekistan fell under the restrictions.
More than 30 people are included in the British restricted list. According to London, they are related to the development and production of drones and parts of missiles, and the import of electronic components.
Sanctions are also imposed against four organizations located in the United Arab Emirates, which, according to the British Foreign Office, are involved in the trade of Russian oil.
- The “Group of Seven” includes Great Britain, Germany, Italy, Canada, France, Japan and the USA.
